The world's biggest social network has made the billion.
In a Facebook blog post Mark Zuckerberg has announced that there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
To mark this landmark, the Facebook CEO went on to say:
"If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you. Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life. I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too."
One billion people is a momentous feat for a website that is still not even ten years old - but can you remember some of these other monumentous events in its short life?

Really ...one billion. Facebook remove all the duplicate accounts, the fake accounts, the scammers and the figure will be considerably less. The number of scammers is increasing, even though repeatedly reported they still remain. It is time Facebook got it's house in order and removed all accounts that had been idle for more than 12 months, deleted the accounts of scammers when reported, and removed all duplicate accounts. I guarantee the number will be no where near a billion.

Correction, a couple hundred million people or more are connected, the other couple million no longer use Facebook as it has gotten worse over the years, then you have the other million who have more than one account for cats,dogs, stalking, trolling and so on thus bringing you and the world back to the real story of you actually having less than 1 billion users..... i rest my case!

What the article did not mention is that scores of disgruntled Facebook members have actually created a group (on Facebook) for complaints and pleas to Facebook staff on how to close their Facebook account.
A method to close a Facebook account does exist but it is a complicated and convoluted process with a significant number of members just giving up - which would appear to be the aim of Facebook.
So is the one billion members a true reflection of satisfied users? I doubt it.

What a joke! Facebook is inundated with thousands upon thousands of fake accounts, multiple accounts and worse of all lying, cheating Scammers mainly from West Africa. These accounts remain no matter how many times they have been reported. If Facebook were to remove all the defunct accounts, all the scammers and duplicate accounts the numbers would be considerably smaller than he is claiming.

It is a pity that the true number will never be really known. There are thousands upon thousands of Fake and Scammer accounts...and many accounts that have never been activated. It is time Facebook cleaned up its site and removed all the scammers that are reported instead of ignoring them.

I've always thought of Facebook as a barometer for human insecurity and stupidity.
The more insecure and stupid you are the more you use it.
I do have a page of my own, but never use it. I guess that makes me smart and very secure and at peace with myself (smug)

Is that a billion INDIVIDUAL accounts? I have two facebook accounts (use one to check what people can see on my real one) and I know I ain't the only one so I'm pretty dubious about the kind of numbers being reported.....

There may be a billion users, but don't try joining any of the groups, and if your not careful, they will block you. I tried to join some steam railway groups and was told I would be blocked if I tried joining anymore, because I didn't know them. So what is the point of groups on Facebook. Am I suppost to go to these societies and get to know them first, in which case that does away with Facebook groups, no need for them.

Yet over the last few weeks we've been hearing complaints about how there are millions of fake FB accounts messing with advertising, so probably not a billion "users", more like a billion accounts.

Part of the problem is that having signed on to Facebook, it is extremely difficult to get off it. Perhaps Mark would like to look into this - although I suspect he already has!

Frankly I'm shocked! I could have sworn there are more than 1 billion mugs in the world.
If I was mark suckburger ( or whatever his name is) I would laugh myself to sleep every night, just knowing that there are people in the world stupid enough to believe that facebook shares would increase in value. I think he deserves every penny of his wealth. Keep sucking up the BS dumbos ;)
