There are hundreds of new features to divert you. Some minor, others front and centre such as Notification Center.

Notification Center makes your Mac a little bit more like an iPad or iPhone. In fact, the melding of iOS (the Apple OS for its portable devices) and OS X is a key element of Mountain Lion. So when an email, say, arrives, it discreetly shows up in the top corner before shuffling off. Want to see all the notifications? Swipe left on the touchpad and there are your upcoming appointments and received emails. Swipe right and they're gone again. Neat and fun to use.
