$1.1 billion spent by web giant - but why? Here's all you need to know
The main players
Meet the players
A fierce battle is about to begin and new battle lines are being drawn - as the world's biggest tech superpowers fight for dominance in the mobile/tablet arena this autumn. Let us guide you through the key players in this battle of attrition:
Google not only have their own Nexus 7 tablet but the Android ecosystem continues to grow, and with huge support from the likes of Samsung and Amazon they are a formidable foe.
Microsoft look set to enter the crowded tablet market with their own Surface device - and with both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 on the verge of availability the Seattle giants could scatter its competitors playing pieces far and wide.
Apple too is set to unleash the newest addition in their iPhone arsenal and look to fire a rocket up Google's trousers by launching their own mini tablet.
The question is: which side will come out on top, whose products will woo you?

What on earth is going on Apple need to step down.
After succesfully taking Samsung to court an sueing them 1 billion dollars for copying their ipad and iphone an now everyone is doing it.
Are Apple going to be sueing everyone I think not, the only reason they sued Samsung was because they were being out sold 3 to 1.
Although I do like the way Samsung setteled, their CEO sent the 1 billion dollars in 5 cents coins loaded into 7 trucks sort that lot out.
Apple were furious, and Samsung said in the eyes of the law we have paid you there were no terms of method of payment on the order.
The Ceo of Samsung said we will not be bullied by a bunch of geeks who think they have style if they can play dirty we can play dirtier good on Samsung i say.
Trouble with Apple is their arrogance they make something and everyone jumps on it and gets hooked then someone else comes along and takes it to the next level.
Windows mobile and Windows phone operating systems work really well if you set them up properly.
I have been using windows mobile powered phones for something like 8 years now and wouldent get anything else but windows. That said, not everyone is me or my taste so if Win phone was off the choices then its Andriod all the way, stay away from that restrictive and greedy apple!
Apple use hype to draw in customers and make them belive that there ios based devces are the most popular when android is out selling ios 3-1 !
I like apple product and well done to America to protect there company's. The problem is the phones have been smashed with the samsung galaxy 2 and their did not respond. So had Apple brought a product out to at least match the SG2. Then the launch of samsung galaxy s3 just wiped the floor with apple. We want better apple products and for apple to at least keep up with the tec. How long have we waited for the i phone 5 . Plus the high price for iphone and apps. SAMSUNG FREE in the U.K and most android apps are free to . Its a no brainer to buy a IPhone when you can get a better product free. Step up to the plate apple and i am sure your custom will return or end up like nokia.
TBH I wouldn't have another windows phone. apps are poor even the paid ones can be awful. The phone freezes and needs rebooting just to keep a signal. You think your sending a text or phoning and your not ( because it's frozen again!!)
Go with android. More free apps and loads less hassle.
I go for a Windows os. I like to have freedom to move aps around. any other and you lost all if the thing packs up.
On the other hand, if you want it as a play thing - it's your choice. As a grown-up I pick the most popular os.
I remember all the early computers, what a mess then CPM Atari amstrad ro name just a few, everyone trying to get emulators so they could run software on each computer. It van only temped piracy! We all want every thing.
They are the geniuses who have given the world the very best of technology.
Apple technology is where the World is today - and the Courts have proved it.
The rest are merely imitations, Apple lookalikes - not one is significantly different from the Apple design.
But, there has to be a place for everyone and people must have a choice. Not everyone likes or can afford a Rolls Royce.
