Price: £499
Rating: 4/5

A good, all-round laptop with an attractive 15.6-inch screen for watching video. The dual-core i3 processor provides all the power you need for most routine computing tasks, and it's got plenty of memory and hard disk space for storing all your music, photos and videos. It's a bit heavy, and battery life is a relatively modest four hours, but it's good for the price.

if anyone of you people complaining about the dells that dont work just give them to me im sure if i clean it up and use it the way it should be used it will work fine. you have to look after and treat lap tops with respect for them to work to their optimum standard. @ifc next time you go to work and dont do your job properly i hope your boss doesn't hit you with a hammer and ridicule you to your colleagues. you sound like a spoilt little **** who needs a good slap. you probably get things too easily and have no repect for them. you desrerve a spectrum 48k. it's all the memory you wil ever need. @ liz build one yourself if you can do it better than the manufacturer you'll make a fortune. whinging spoilt little bratts,

@ Liz Huball,  i agree entirely, my Inspiron was exactly the same. it was so frustrating to even try and converse with customer service, so i eventually gave up after 12 returns to the shop and discussions with Dell, so i had the great delight in putting a hammer to it, after removing the hard drive and took it back to the shop and stood outside after talking to no avail to the manager, i even got people walking away from the pc counter after i informed them what they were selling, and the manager offered me a replacement( teehee), and way and behold that Dell was about the same, so i ditched it after 3 months, and now have an ASUS which has been great and trouble free after 8 months, Dell is rubbish though and through, but what can you expect from the American market, all their goods are below standard rubbish. since i returned from America after 5 yrs there, the UK supplied goods are far superior an anything i buy................ DELL JUST CANNOT PRODUCE A GOOD PC.

I have the Packard Bell EasyNote TS but with the second generation i5 processor, and I paid the same price. Also my battery lasts a good 8 hours. Don't waste your time buying this laptop at £499 with just an i3 processor.

I just don't get why you would even consider a laptop these days, they are all built to the lowest standard and can barely keep up with a similarly priced desktop on idle.

would be nice to see a laptop come out that could actually take some mild abuse from it's user before taking a fit and becoming an expencive door stop.

desktop/tablet combo don't even waste your money on a laptop.

No ASUS machines in the list. They have been producing excellent budget laptops for a while now.

who ever did this survey obviously didn't ask the people who bought one the dell inspiron, i bought one and it's crap it freezes constantly doesn't come on at all some days there's so many faults i could name i'd be here all night. got in touch with the firm and they said they could check it from their end and was told there's nothing wrong with it, for all the faults it's got there must be something wrong, never again and i wouldn't call £600 cheap dell can go to hell as their after sales service is terrible
