IE8 - Safest browser of all
Windows Internet Explorer 8 has topped NSS Labs' web browser security tests for the third time.
NSS Labs' latest study, published earlier this month, looked at the number of live threats that manage to infiltrate a PC's defences and potentially wreak all sorts of havoc.
These threats are called malware - pieces of rogue software that find their way onto your computer by masquerading as legitimate websites.
The study's results show that Windows Internet Explorer 8 caught 85% of live threats, way ahead of the next best performing browser.

According to the NSS Labs report, a score of 85% puts Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the lead with "an exceptional score" beating the next best browser (Apple Safari 4) with a 56% margin.
This is the third of three studies by NSS Labs. In each study Windows Internet Explorer 8 provided the best protection, successfully stopping 69%, 81% and 85% of threats respectively. NSS Labs concludes the latest report by saying: "Internet Explorer 8 was by far the best at protecting against socially-engineered malware."
