How to create Bing Maps collections

How to save your favourite places and share them with friends using Bing Maps.

Planning a route that you need others to see?

Or maybe you've compiled the locations of all the Premiership Football Clubs in the UK, whatever the reason you'll need to know how to share your favourite places.

The Windows Live Channel will show you how to create your Bing Maps collections and save your places with others across the web.

How to save your favourite places

Fire up the Bing Maps homepage

Before proceeding you'll need to make sure you're signed in to Bing Maps with your Windows Live ID. Done that?

You can save your favourite places easily under the 'My places' tab, just click on the star icon.

If you previously used Live Search (and Live Maps respectively) this would have been called 'My Collections, so all of this should be second-nature.

Click the places icon to open your places. This is the My places editor, click 'New list' to start adding information about your list.

Your new list needs a Title and Tags (keywords that will enable people to find your list). There's also space for additional information in the Notes section.

One last thing: ensure that Sharing options are ticked as neglecting to do this will hide your maps from friends andclick Save to exit.

Still in the My places editor, click the blue pushpin to begin adding places to our map.

Use the Bing search box to browse for your chosen location. A pin will appear on the map indicating the location.

Hit save in the dialog box and click the orange save box after that.

Item limit: You can add up to 200 items to your places, so you're unlikely to run out of space!

To edit the pin, just click on it.

This screen gives you the option to add information, upload photos, add URLs and other details relevant to the location.

Repeat these steps ad-infinitum for any other places you want on the map.

How to delete places

Items that you save in your places will remain there until you delete them. To delete, in the My places editor click on the 'Actions' tab.

Select 'Delete' from the available options.

To share your places

In the 'Actions' menu select the 'Email' option. Your default email client will launch (usually Outlook Express) and display the URL of your newly created maps collection.
