Ever since Microsoft upgraded its Hotmail services to incorporate Messenger, you can handily see who's online and chat with your Messenger buddies from the comfort of your inbox. Yes, Hotmail's now more niftier than ever!

What's more, it's far from complicated just follow these very simple steps and you'll be chatting and opening emails in no time.

Sign in to Messenger

Already logged into Hotmail? Good. From your inbox look to the left-hand side of the page - click Sign in to Messenger. If instead you see a Search contacts box you're already signed in so this step isn't neccessary.

Start a chat

You should now be looking at your Messenger contact list. Point your mouse at a contact to see that person's status, to send an instant message just click on their name. Want to chat to more than one person? Just click another contact to open a new conversation tab.
