So you've got your hands on a shiny new Windows Phone...but before you sign into your Xbox LIVE account, set up your Facebook, and download some apps, we're guessing you'll want your old contacts and numbers.

If you've got an older phone your contacts may be stored on the SIM card within that phone or on the phone itself.

If this is the case, you may be able to copy your contacts by inserting your old SIM card and hitting a few buttons.

How to import contacts from a SIM card

By default, most people like to store their contacts directly on their phone's SIM card.

Import your contacts to Windows Phone.

To import contacts from a SIM card:

From the Start screen on your Windows Phone, tap 'People'.

Look to the bottom right of your screen - tap the More menu '...' (represented by three dots).

Click on 'Settings'.

Select 'Import SIM contacts' and follow the instructions.
