Holiday of a lifetime in Gambia
In 2005 I went on holiday to Gambia with my wife, foster son and two friends.During the trip we became friendly with our waiter, Abram, and one of the night security guards, Aljuma.
We discovered that Aljuma was also the headmaster of a local primary school. He worked at night to earn enough money to pay his teachers from his own pocket.
We visited Aljuma at his school and took pens, pencils and writing paper for the children. We also promised to raise money for Aljuma when we returned to England to buy benches for one of his classrooms. Aljuma and I still talk on Hotmail and we still sponsor the school for various items they need. We plan to return at some point to see how it is progressing but until then we thank Hotmail for letting us keep in touch with our Gambian friends!
