Touch Mouse
Touch Mouse
The humble mouse was reimagined once again in 2011, this time with multi-touch gestures. It uses the same Bluetrack Technology as found in the Arc Touch Mouse and is only compatible with Windows 7. Tour the Touch Mouse in pictures.

Uh, the first mouse was released in 1983. That was 29 years ago, probably less as it's only january. Can you imagine if they'd never invented the mouse? We'd all still be sat here typing in DOS, or using a joystick or something.
And it's all Microsoft mice because this is MSN. Owned by Microsoft.
Maybe you should mention that when slapping yourself of the back when celebrating 30 years, and maybe even give a "grudging" acknowledgement to Apple for this innovative step.
Anti-Microsoft Geeks really ought to stay well away from MSN. As someone has already pointed out. This is a Microsoft site and so they are entitled to talk about their own products. If you don't rate them I would advise you that you have a choice. Click onto another page. The Mouse is a useful and splendid device that has been developed out all recognition to those early crude models. Personally I use Logitech wireless mice and keyboards these days. But I have used Microsoft products in the past, and not had any significat problems. I just prefer Logitech.
Most computers are now being made in China in any case, which should be the real beef.
The development of the Mouse eventually resulted in this brilliant IBM engineering document -
Abstract: Mouse Balls Available as FRU (Field Replacement Unit)
Mouse balls are now available as FRU. Therefore, if a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.
Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop-off method. Domestic balls are replaced using the twist-off method. Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge. Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately.
It is recommended that each replacer have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction, and that any customer missing his balls should suspect local personnel of removing these necessary items.
To re-order, specify one of the following:
P/N 33F8462 - Domestic Mouse Balls
P/N 33F8461 - Foreign Mouse Balls
the mouse wasnt a microsoft design or thought ........
it was invented by IBM and then further developed by apple mackinosh .....
then microsoft took the idea ....
to rub it in even further the first machine it was put on as standard was a apple mac one...
and the first affordable hoé computer with the mouse on in the uk ..was the ATARI ST520e...
ohhh now uncle bill wants every one to think how microsoft invented the world when the sdtruth is is it wasnt for apple bill gate would never of worked as it was there ideas and money that started him off , funded him then he ran with his and there ideas and then became indiepedant with microsoft ..... which is why steve jobs had such a fued and hatred with the opersition company
please msn .. i know who pays the player calls the tune but dont publish brain washed tails
I agree with some of the comments here, however, you need to be fair!
Of course Microsoft were not the inventers of the mouse. But, much to apple's dismay - Microsoft have made it big time, and Apple did not make it so big. I also wish there was another competing OS which was as good as windows which I did not have to run on a computer which looks like a coffee machine! I like Microsoft, and the flexibility and IBM based machines offers over the Mac. I can see this has become an Apple Vs Microsoft thing. But the truth is if apple had allowed their OS to run on older IBM based machines then they would have taken a larger amount of the market share, they have woken up recently and have at least started to use regular hardware like compatible RAM and Intel based Processors. Microsoft might not have invented the mouse, but they unfortunately now dominate the market, something Apple should have addressed years ago!
This might shed some light though what I saw in that programme might even have pre-dated this Xerox machine:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_Alto
So, was it Microsoft, or Apple, or Xerox?!
Just recently got a MacBook (for various reasons) and visiting some forums, it's amazing how most try to defend the Mac way and the Apple world?!
They should open their minds.
'Think Different' in the Apple world seems to mean 'Only think my way'.
There should be a picture of the disk shaped mouse that came with the original imacs.
It was a lesson in how not to design.
We have 3 of the Microsoft Trackball Optical 1.0 devices. Much easier than a mouse and especially good if the desk is cluttered. Shame it isnt made any more :-(
Our children can use the trackball - even if they have to use both hands because its designed for adults. Mind you - they can use mice of any shape, a laptop style touch pad, the nib/pointer on the Media Centre keyboard and a mini trackball on a wireless keypad and touch screens.
Digital Research developed GEM which ran on the Atari in the 1980s - Windows has only just about now caught up with the Atari front end.
The article is about 'Microsoft' mice, that is to say a 'PC' peripheral, not an expensive piece of hardware junk AKA a 'MAC',or should that be 'MAC' Donald's?
Most people still use a mouse, pens, touch screens et'c are all inferior to the mouse-keyboard combination, the keyboard of which I have always used since the earliest of days of 'DOS'sing around on a 'PC'.
A mouse is the most precise & fastest input device, which is why they are used by the best online gamers & for CAD work et'c.
The most accurate input method for technical drawings is the keyboard, from which you can specify the position of a point (end of line, centre of circle, etc.) to within as many decimal places as the software will allow.
Once again, microsoft have failed to do their homework. 'Arc' will forever be an abbreviation for 'Archimedes', a range of RISC-OS machines from the 80's and 90's.
Anyway, its about time that microsoft developed some decent hardware designs for the inside of their computers, never mind the outside.
I use MSN because when I first got on the www, the free emails were a considerable attraction. That's about all I have ever used MSN for, and I only keep it going because I'm not one of these people who change their email address every five minutes.
I bet the new mouse still only has two buttons...
Who the hell uses a 'mouse' in this day and age............I use the 'Pen'........a lot faster and more ergonomic. Get a Graphics pad.......durrrrrrr. x
