Microsoft's Surface is a family of tablets designed to run Windows 8 - the eagerly awaited device marks the Seattle tech giant's first steps into the tablet market and puts them in direct competition with the likes of Apple and Google.
Following the unveiling of the new Microsoft Surface tablets earlier this year, Carphone Warehouse predicted the first Windows 8 tablet will ignite the burgeoning tablet market - Microsoft Surface "will trigger new tablet race". Judging by the waves made when the first Surface TV ad debuted on Twitter, it would seem interest has piqued, with 'The Surface Movement' standing at 665,699 views in little under 24 hours.
What's more, the UK Microsoft Store is now taking preorders - with delivery stated for 26 October to arrive by 30 October. Surface pricing starts at an affordable £399...

Except it is more capable than ANY Android tablet, and also more capable than the iPad it is targeted at, could it be cheaper? possibly! Should it be priced to compete with bargain basement Androids? Absolutely not!!

Sell your laptop & iPad, wait till the Windows 8 pro version comes out early next year and then buy one, or get left behind.

Pricing starts at an "affordable" £399, I don't know about anyone else but that seems a ridiculously high starting point, they're going to have to do better then that to compete with android tablets.

Shame about the price - should have been more competitive. I think Apple is a bad enough rip off so
wouldn't be interested as I could buy tablet at fraction of the price.

Windows 8 is the biggest pile of rubbish, how can microsoft go from something as awesome and easy to use as Windows 7 to the pile of crap that is 8. Maybe its time to listen to the words of my friends and go Linux.

Depending on how well it functions it's going to make iPad look old hat, 'garish mess' is hard to agree with, I own an iPad but do think they are over rated, apple has made a rod for its own back with its rigid stance on flash, external storage, video formats, accessories, they serve alot of purposes well granted but I think the Surface will bridge the gap between laptops and tablets, people I know that own both a laptop and an iPad would keep their laptop over the iPad for obvious reasons and that is where the surface will fit the market, that said I will be waiting for the Intel based 8 pro to be released and will be eagerly waiting reviews on youtube to make sure they live up to my expectations.

Really disappointing price. I thought they were going to make it quite a bit cheaper than the iPad and get Apple worried.
Guess I will just be staying with my laptop.

Looks like a garish mess to me and too little too late. Win 8 is a pup and if they think I'd swap an iPad for one of these tablets they're having a reality meltdown.
