There's only one question that really matters when a new tablet is launched: is it better than the iPad? Up until now, no single product has been able to muster a genuine challenge.
In a report released earlier this year it was predicted the iPad series of tablets will increase its share of the tablet market to 62.5% this year. That leaves all its many and varied competitors scrabbling around for just one-third of the market.
Most of those competitors are currently Android tablets, but Microsoft has now entered the market with a big splash. Its announcement of the new Surface family of tablets sees it going head-to-head with Apple in the tablet market. But can it succeed? We stack Microsoft's Surface up against Apple's latest iPad to see how the two compare.

I had a iphone and i now have a droid the iphone is an a drawer where it belongs you couldn't give me a iphone now no comparison ,,,nobody can tell me what the iphone does that my galaxy does.... Oh yes the apple are on borrowed time people will soon realise that there are better and cheaper options out there

It seems to have taken Microsoft years just to realize that you can win the majority of people over with a cool looking product and a decent interface. Windows 7 & now the Surface with Windows 8 are steady improvements over their previous vulgarities but seriously, hire some proper designers!, there are loads of them out there. Functionality is obviously very important but if they cannot produce the wow factor that Apple maintain with most of their products then they wont be stealing the crown anytime soon.

I use windows at office and Linux(Gentoo) at home. my sister has a ipad (I use it a lot), one thing I like about apple product is how sleek and polished their products are. and MS and Google are just copying Apple's ideas. Apple is original and others are just cheap copy. Even Bill Gates admit it in this youtube video interview:" Steve Jobs and Bill Gates Together in 2007 at D5".

give it a year or two and it will be on ebay at knock down prices, if it follows most of microsoft s past hardware. i have a zune which should on paper have beat the ipod but in the must have iworld it fell off. ive just bought a blackberry playbook for £129 even without 10 but with bridge its better thought out than the ipad. and that is now in bargain basement. so the surface really needs to be head and shoulders above the ipad. they have had long enough to get it right against the competition. if not ill be ready to visit the basement again.
