Sony’s second waterproof Xperia tablet - the hottest Android slate?
Apple has pioneered easy-to-learn fully featured music creation apps with its GarageBand software on Mac laptops over the last few years. The latest version of GarageBand (£2.99) for iPhone contains more choices of virtual instruments for mobile producers to play around with than ever before.
GarageBand turns your iPhone into a pretty powerful mobile recording studio, so you can combine pianos, guitars, drums, basses and more, plus use your phone's built-in microphone to capture vocals or other instruments to add into the mix. Tunes can be shared via SoundCloud, Facebook or YouTube.

Why not call this article an Apple advert.
This "well researched" lol - article leaves out the most important problem - by the time you've mucked about with all these lovely apps - your battery goes dead and you can't use your smartphone as a phone - not very smart in my opinion.
I hate now on the adverts for phones is how great a picture you can take. No I want to be able to phone someone . I have a camera thank you. Or you can watch streamed movies on them. No I have my 3d hd tv with surround sound for that. Or I can surf the net no I have my laptop or pc for that.
Please stop trying to sell me gadgets I neither need or want.
But I suppose these companies want your money they do not really care if you want it or not
Humm, I wonder if Smartphone's go up to 42" screen ?
NOPE,,,well don't see the point in that comment will replace TV's !
My eyes are getting older, I am sure going to need a larger phone one day than that small gimmick !.
The thing is with electronics as a electronics engineer, its getting smaller, and now the electronics components out there are at a unbelievable high count, so what happens every so often they can make things very small, some of the components are that small you can sit on a pin its that small, they go faster do many things and for sure its getting allot cheaper to make,
Remember the first calculator how much that was and did, now look at them you can get a scientific calculator for ten pounds. BUT the thing its still costing the public high amounts of money for smart phones, my BIG question is WHY ?
When electronics components are so cheap to make, and even the manufacture of components has a example of use data for the component greatly helping the design engineers, so it takes very little time to design a phone, the only so called hard part is to design the PCB, even that is automatic on some clever software packages.
One day Smartphone's will have a single IC and that's all it has, then clever software makes it do whatever you want !. exactly like the single chip IC in most calculators.
I again say if we stop buying expensive phones, the manufacture has no alternative but to bring down the price, if we keep on doing that they might be free at the garage one day with petrol !.
Basically the manufactures of the clever small IC's Chips, make so many they offload them to the phone manufactures, and I know only too well electronics is getting so cheap, look at the raspberry electronics computer PCB for schools experiments, that can do most things a PC can do in a small developers package, I seen them in farnell, and so cheap, even I was shocked at the low price for what it can do, even output 1080p !. for less than thirty pounds. !

scene modes, face detection, 100-400% dynamic range, auto or manual focussing etc etc etc which ny Fuji HS10 gives me for £240?
Better than any camera? B******s
What smart phone can do high end gaming??? i'll tell you now angry birds is not high end gaming.
the new playstation vita cant do high end gaming right you never see a high quality RTS on there as it cant keep up with the frame rates even most gaming laptops cant.
for photos you want to blow up and print out you want be using your smartphone put it that way you don't have an optical zoom on a smart phone.
the only think the smartphone as killed of is the mp3 player
There`s no doubt that `smart` phones are pretty good these days. i`m pretty amazed at what they can do for their size.
1. They`re better in a lot of cases than the standard camera and amazing vid camera too.
2. Great for memos and calendar work.
3. Great alarm clocks, they never fail me. And it`s nice popping in the tune you want to be woken up by.
4. Easish access.
5. Quick internet connection. From cold start to being on the net, my mobile was faster than my quad core! that said, my quad core PC has a lot more stuff to go through than the mobile, so it`s kind of moot.
The smart mobile is NOT:
1. Nearly as good as the high end PC games you can play- NOTHING LIKE. I`ve not found one game I can even compare to the PC power except maybe Tetris!
2. Smart phone Art programs are NOTHING LIKE Pc art programs. I know, I`m an artist\illustrator.
3.They run out of juice pretty fast if you start doing anything like the above on them (a few hours).
4. They are not as easy to access as a Mouse and normal size keyboard, even with that `swipe` thing.
5. They don`t have anything like the computing power of even midrange PCs. Even quad core smartphones cannot cope against duo core main desktop Pcs. Yet.
So no, the Smartphone isn`t the solution to everything. maybe in 20 years, but not now.
