Samsung has added the new iPhone 5 to its list of patent lawsuits it has filed against the Apple in what is turning out to be an epic legal battle between the world's two pre-eminent consumer electronics firms.
"Apple continues to take aggressive legal measures that will limit market competition," said a Samsung spokesman. "Under these circumstances, we have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights."
Samsung has an arch rival for the new iPhone 5 in the shape of the new Galaxy S3 - but it it just one of many competitors. We take a look at them all, and help you decide what you should choose as your next smartphone.

People really should not care about the iphone 5 because it is esentially the phone that every other company was selling 8 months ago but with a shiny new apple logo and a bunch of either porrly implamented or pointless gimicks attached. Why spend £600 + on a piece of technology that was outdated even before it was released. Why not buy a G3 insted, it's £200 cheeper has better hardware and cheeper contracts. The only reason to buy an iphone 5 is if you are commited to apple, relish the chance to buy outdated tech that has been re-packaged or you just enjoy paying that ball blisteringly stupid apple tax (you know the one where apple creates something that is as good as or worse that the leading competitor and says "screw it these clueless sods will have to pay another £400 for our inferior products"). And you know that people will because when it comes to overpriced tec apple have made a fortune on the stupidity and lack of common sense of consumers.

Does the world change because the iphone-5 has come out? - NO.
Could anyone care less if the iphone-24 was to come out ? - NO.
Reason is there's so many BETTER phones ALREADY out there.
I'm bored sh*tless with all the hype about something that's just not in the same league as all the others.

ive had iphones since they came out and initially - yes they did inovate however since the iphone 4 they have become less inovative and more bland. i have moved to the s3 and believe me as a power user of both phones - the galaxy is definately better. the phone is absolutely awsome and remember this -
1. the iphone is more prone to its glass breaking due to the fragile nature (less so for the s3)
2. i definately think the s3 is better looking esspecially with the size of screen
3. ive been told apple gets components from samsung??
4. the quad core is wayyyyy faster and can even be over or under clocked
5. THE BATTERY IS REMOVABLE AND EXTRA BATTERYS ARE DIRT CHEEP. you will soon find that when you have to replace the battery couse it fails or doesnt charge as well or with the larger screen it eats up power or with lotts of apps etc running - you will need to be able to exchange batterys quickly as charging takes time. ONLY S3 CAN DO THIS .
6. iphone doesnt do widgets (wigets are wicked!!) live newsfeeds /weather /streams and pics etc etc
7. you can even get a beats audio style mod/panoramic camera and brill effects all as std.
8. the camera light is way more powerfull than the old 4s (my s3 is like a torch comparted to iphone)
9. the 4s was heavier (ill wait to see how heavy the 5 actually is in my hand and if its noticable.
10 s3 has picture in picture (you can vire your vids whilest texting etc), it has lotts of inovative features like smart stay watches you and doesnt turn of if you watching as well a number of new inovative features no other phone has
theres so much more substance to the g3. the only thing that is better on the iphone is the ios is silky smooth and theres plenty of better apps on the app store but thats not samsungs fault but more android and developers.

Apple its now all about connections! The 30 pin connector was not universal but at least it was common to all apple products, from the ipod up to the ipad. So why change it? Okay so it would only work with other apple products but at least it was a sort of standard, if only a very closed standard. Now all those ipod docks will be useless to iphone 5 users. If you really wanted to change here was the opportunity to get it right, you backed the wrong horse with firewire, now you could have swallowed your pride and taken up USB. No too bloody arrogant, and it's going to cost you in lost sales. Innovation is not arrogance.

Love my Lumia 800. It does everything I want it to do and it looks bloody good as well. I'll stick with it instead of this overpriced geek contraption.

Dear MSN, can we please have some spam filters on the comments pages?
The iphone 5 should have been named the iphone 4G. It didn't have the new 'killer' tech needed to justify the extra iteration on the number. A larger screen, better processor, a few software tweaks and a bit of bling on the styling. I'm utterly underwhelmed. Apple has been relying on the app store and itunes for too long, it needs to give us a markedly superior handset as well.

I went on the Apple website to view the iPhone 5. As I typed in the search bar it said my keyboard was not compatible but I could buy a convertor for £25...... Samsung S3 all the way

Wouldnt swap my galaxy S3 the pic is so clear, my daughter had an Iphone 4 now she cant wait to swap hers for a galaxy S3. She says its lighter, clearer a much better quality. Galaxy S3 all the way. The Iphone looks to bulky, ugly. Galaxy S3 has a sleek look to it.

The Iphone 5 looks like the fakes that use to come out of china. They were lighter(small battery), thinner and taller.

The S3 case is not plain old plastic, its polycarbonate, same as the Lumia I believe.

True Innovation is still with the company that invented touch screen phones, Thinking differently is not, as the posters would have you believe and follow the Logo monkeys spamming the world over the unimpressive over-hyped iPhone but to judge for yourself. HTC one X buries the concept model iPhone 7 never mind the already outdated 5.
