The recently announced and newly reimagined Motorola Razr currently holds the title of world's slimmest smartphone, measuring in at a super-skinny 7.7mm and matching the Japan-only NEC MEDIAS E-04C smartphone.

It does cheat slightly with a chunkier top edge to house the eight-megapixel camera and flash, but then it also squeezes in a whole host more including an 1800mAh battery for up to 12.5 hours of talktime. A smartphone with good battery life? We must be dreaming...
