Domino's to deliver pizzas by RC helicopter
Fast-food chain Domino's has trialled a way to deliver pizzas when traffic is bad: the DomiCopter. Strapped to the bottom of a remote-controlled helicopter, the pizza can be delivered straight to the door/roof of an eager customer hundreds of metres away.
It's more a public relations stunt than something we expect to see go into full operation, but at least this way you wouldn't have to tip the driver - he'll be lurking in somebody's garden across the way.
Domino's does say that it might launch a flight academy for the DomiCopters, but if that ever happens we'll eat our hats. And they're normal hats, not made of Mighty Meaty slices.
"At Dominos we're always looking to innovate and find new ways to deliver our pizza and a DomiCopter could fit the bill perfectly,” said Simon Wallis, sales and marketing director at Domino's. "We are the number one pizza delivery company and we are committed to staying in that position. What better way to totally avoid the traffic than to fly - if anything this will now make us even quicker! We think it's a great way to reinforce that Domino's go to more lengths than anyone to deliver great pizza."
