Intelligent Energy launches hydrogen fuel cell charger for smartphones, tablets and the like
Intelligent Energy has introduced Upp, a hydrogen fuel cell charger for mobiles, smartphones, tablets and any other device that needs power.
Hydrogen fuel cells use hydrogen mixed with oxygen to produce energy with a by-product of water, and Upp plans to deliver power at the same speed as a wall charger using its replaceable hydrogen cell.
One hydrogen cell has a 25Wh capacity and will fully charge your phone five times, with the only by-product being water vapour.
Upp features a USB type A socket meaning it will be able to charge the majority of USB devices with a 5V, 5W, 1000mA output.
In addition, Upp comes with an accompanying app, which is available on iPhone and Android and can deliver predictive usage statistics, along with user profile information for better fuel level management.
Intelligent Energy's Upp will launch in Africa in December, as a means of providing sustainable, eco-friendly power. Details of pricing and international availability have not been announced yet.
