Design of the year
Winner:
Asus Eee Pad Transformer
The Asus Eee Pad's ingenuous design won over the judges for its flexibility. A great Android tablet that, once added to its keyboard dock, rivals any netbook on the market.
Also nominated:
Dell Inspiron Duo
Fujifilm FinePix X100
KEF Blade
Sagemcom Sixty
TDK Boombox
Korg microPiano
Casio Exilim Tryx
Can you play Gameloft games on the ASUS tablets/transformers? If so then, I agree that Android is at least equal with (you'll not get me to say better, even if I may believe that deep down under all the white boxes :P) iOS, but if you cannot then stfu!!! I love my Archos 101, but its only good for sensible stuff like Kindle, Facebook, Browsing etc, I cannot run any 3D FPS games like Modern Combat because Google will not let them show up on the Market!! In fact, no worthwhile games or apps show up, only 1 or 2 apps for each search I do! Yet on my iPad and iPod touch I can get any app that I read about or find a link to. But in my Android tablet I click the links and nothing shows up in Market, and when I search for well known stuff like Need for Speed etc it does not show up, so how is Android better if I cannot even get the apps that make it so good? Cos lets face it, no functionality found in Android by default is absent from even ye old Windows Mobile 6.1!
Perhaps I am miss judging Android, maybe they know I have iDevices and don't want me to use their apps!! Or more logically, perhaps only Honeycomb tablets work superbly, while Froyo tablets chug along with no apps.
I am in a really bad position as an Apple fanboy who just happens to like Android too, but if the issues with getting apps were not there, I would be alot happier with Android. I do think that if I am looking to add another gadget to my collection that transformer, as it would be good for typing up simple reports etc.
Edit: I just realized the reason I cannot get the games I want is that they are blocked in the UK!!! What sort of **** is that!!??? They should let everything be available everywhere in terms of apps!! Makes me feel like I'm living in a neglected country, like! Well, neglected by Android, anyway.
''''Also, no offence, but id hardly class the "transformer" as a tablet, its just a laptop with detachable keyboard.'''
If you had tried the Asus Transformer TABLET first, and seen how good it is and what it can do, and then physically added the keyboard, you would have been self assured to call it the best tablet without doubt, on the planet right now.
Since I saw the Award this morning and talking to the Mrs, who is not giving it to me to let me play,,,, I am considering splashing out on my own right now.
Cause its TOP DOLLAR
bash apple products all you like, i love my iphone, im not a fan boy, i really cant stand apple them selves with the restrictiveness unless you jailbreak it. some thing people should do the moment they get their idevice.
Also, no offence, but id hardly class the "transformer" as a tablet, its just a laptop with detachable keyboard.
I bought the Asus Transformer 3 months for my wife, who reads a lot of books. We had one of the first Android Tablets , back in August 2010, but felt it was not fast enough. Since the purchase of the Asus, the wife wont let it go, the kids want to play on it, and I want to use the utilities. Search Android market and presto there is something you need. The keyboard is not only useful from a typing point of view, when you have 5 minutes to update your social network page, or use the latest SKYPE Android App, to keep in contact with friends and family, AND additionally it gives you another 8 hrs of battery backup. I never wanted to buy an IPAD, cause the SD card inputs were missing and so forth. Asus took it beyond Apple IPAD and put in 2 x SD CARD inputs, 1 x Micro SD and 1 x HDMI, wooohoooo man. I took a video on my HD camcorder, took it out of the Camcorder, put it into the Asus and playing from the SD card, it was there, in glorious HD.
I for one, am GLAD that I bought it, cause not only is it an excellent piece of kit, worthy of taking the the STUFF 2011 but it gave me so much CUDOS with the Mrs for years to come.
So all the Apple lovers out there - Dont brush it with Tar, until you have actually seen it and tried it.
Oh, ps, did i mention that my wife reads a lot of books. Well she has been able to convert god knows how many book formats to use with the ASUS, whether .mobi or pdf or . lit its all there for you all to try the best tablet on the market by a MILE.
re Adam's comment. Do you own the Transformer?. I do and it easily outstrips the Ipad2 by a mile. The IPS screen, the connectivity options (USB2, micro sd card and hdmi) the battery life (the keyboard gives it upto 16 hours battery life) and the keyboard is fantastic. It's also a great business tool too.
The iphone (latest figs for the UK) is not the biggest selling phone at the moment. The biggest selling for for the past 6 months has been the Galaxy S2). Apple has just been catching up (tech wise) with Android phones.
Once the new Transformer Prime comes out with it's quad core processer their will be nothing to touch it.
PS I am not an Apple hater or a fanboy for any company.
