Moving on to Windows 8, Balmer stressed that it was designed "in a forward-looking way" and operates around the central philosophy that "people want to be mobile, without compromising the productivity PCs are known for."
He brought up a bet that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Paul Allen made at the firm's founding - "hardware and software, pushing each other" - and spoke about previous hardware ventures the firm had embarked on, such as the Xbox, Kinect and webcams. Then, finally, a video to introduce it - showing metal warping in the air above a desert to reveal the word "Surface".

Adobe Flash - Yes It can do. I use windows 8 on Ipad through Citrix and has no problems what so ever. I am very positiove about this, even if patches come by. Microsoft has proven capability on the OS, if not why would businesses across globe use WINDOWS and not Macs. 25 yrs in IT, never came across a mac more than a toy.

MS have the financial clout to take on Apple if they put their mind to it.
Somehow they have to make it "cool" and have thousands of Apps to compete. They could even afford to pay developers for producing apps especially for Windows 8 OS.
They've a lot of catching up to do and let's not forget that pricing can come into the equation. I also hope it plays Adobe Flash ....

Well knowing microsoft,as soon as it is launched they will download hundreds of updates,like they do with pc's,so I will stick with my excellent ipad and give up the chance of updates all the time.
