$1.1 billion spent by web giant - but why? Here's all you need to know
Microsoft Surface with Windows RT
Microsoft Surface with Windows RT
Our Verdict:
Until the Pro arrives in the UK (which should be in May) - the RT version of Microsoft's tab is your best bet for native Windows 8 touch-tablet action. Microsoft’s first hardware and the first outing for Windows RT. As such it takes some getting used to. The tablet effect with Modern UI tiles are striking and enjoyable, the full-blown computer element of Office 13 is useful and recognisable. The two halves don’t always fit together seamlessly but this is a well-built, slick machine with an operating system that’s largely successful and will grow as it becomes more familiar.
Solid, well-built and attractive in its black glass and metal finishes, the Surface has a screen bigger than most other tablets at 10.6 inches. It’s an HD display, at least its 1366 x 768 resolution will be familiar to anyone who had an HD-ready, rather than a Full HD TV. That means it has 148 pixels per inch, proportionally lower than the new iPad mini, and a bit more than the iPad 2. That may not sound that impressive, but when it comes to playing back video, say, it’s more than reasonable. And the built-in kickstand means it’s easy to prop the screen up perfectly.

These reviews are ALWAYS heavily biased towards Apple. Do MSN get commission from Apple.
Smart people go for Samsung 10.1 tabs.
Don't agree. I have an iPad and am pretty disappointed with it. It's a very expensive web browser and media player. Nothing more. iTunes is annoying and slow. I'm also sick of browsing the web with "is this site going to work on safari?" constantly in the back of my mind. On each browsing session I'll hit at least 1 website that doesn't work on safari. It integrates poorly with my business applications. If you just want a media play then go with the Kindle HD or Surface RT I reckon. The iPad is just a media player and costs loads more... all the apps are just a consumer quagmire of distraction since barely any of them offer any real life changing convenience. They're just another way for you to buy crap you don't need and pass your money onto corporate giants. Until they start to offer some real improvements on productivity of daily tasks then it's simply an expensive distraction. Why get an expensive one when you can get a much cheaper one that does the same thing?
bought 4 HD kindles for my kids.
really good to use easy and the screen is great.
and for what i paid for them i'd have only gotten 2 i pads.
really no brainer.
